Roger GrothWade Howles

Pound Middle School, Lincoln

Wade Howles is currently in his second year at Pound Middle School in Lincoln, NE where he directs 7th and 8th grade concert bands, as well as Jazz Ensemble and Big Band. Prior to his current position, he spent six years as 5-12 Band Director for Lakeview Community Schools in Columbus, NE. Under his leadership the instrumental music programs at Lakeview saw substantial increases in enrollment at all levels, obtained Superior ratings at the district and state levels, and sent multiple members to the Nebraska All-State Band. For his efforts he was awarded the 2019 NSBA Jack R. Snyder Outstanding Young Director Award. In addition to his public-school teaching, Dr. Howles serves as adjunct professor of saxophone for Doane University. He obtained his B.S. Ed degree from Northwest Missouri State University as well as Master of Music (2010) and Doctor of Musical Arts (2017) degrees in saxophone performance, with a related area in jazz, at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. 

Dr. Howles is an active clinician and is scheduled to conduct the 2023 York Middle School Honor Band. He has adjudicated numerous jazz, marching, and district music contests throughout Nebraska. He is also active as a freelance saxophonist performing regularly with numerous chamber groups and jazz bands throughout the region. Dr. Howles currently resides in Lincoln, NE with his wife, sons, dog, leopard gecko, and turtle. Outside of music he enjoys golfing, competing as a natural bodybuilder, and the joys of DIY home remodeling.
