Call for Performing Groups!

We are currently planning the 2027 NSBA Convention and invite you to submit an application for your ensemble to serve as a guest performing group. Any instrumental ensemble is eligible to apply, except for those that performed at the 2024, 2025, or 2026 conventions.

Performances will take place in Kimball Recital Hall on the UNL Campus.

A complete application must include the following:

• Completed Application Form: Submitted by December 16, 2026.

• Guest Performing Group Application

• Audio Recordings: High-quality, unedited digital recordings (MP3 or MP4) of two contrasting selections recorded live during the 2026 calendar year. Please ensure there is no audible identification of the ensemble on the recordings.

• Ensemble Media: High-resolution digital photo (JPG or PNG, 640x480 pixels recommended) and a bio of 300 words or less.

• Director Media: High-resolution digital photo of the director(s) (JPG or PNG, 640x480 pixels recommended) and a bio of 300 words or less.

• Proposed Program: Proposed concert program including titles, composers/arrangers, and difficulty grades.

• Seating Chart: Ensemble seating chart in PDF format.

Chairs, music stands, a conductor's podium and stand, and select large percussion equipment (4 timpani, bass drum, 4.3 octave marimba, vibraphone, xylophone, and chimes/tubular bells) will be provided. All other equipment, including sound systems, must be provided by the performing group. Please note that a piano or electric keyboard will not be available.

Completed applications must be received by 11:59 PM on December 16, 2026. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

New 8th Grade All-State Resource!

Last year, a project was begun to create recordings of 8th grade all-state video resources for students and directors across the state.  We’re happy to announce that the project is almost completely finished and is now posted on Youtube for access.  Videos are available for both the concert and jazz etudes.  Note that there are NOT recordings for the chromatic scale or improvisation.  

A few disclaimers:  

• These recordings are meant to be guides and tools, not a replacement for musical choices and personal development. Although the recorders all did a very fine job, it may be okay to differ in your approach.  

• Reminder that the listed tempos are suggestions and can be altered to an extent.  

• Due to various reasons, we are still waiting on recordings for the Bassoon, Jazz Vibes, and Jazz Bass.  We are hoping these will be available in the coming months.

• It was decided last March that the tenor sax concert etude is likely to change in coming years and will be re-recorded/released at that time.

We also want to acknowledge the following people for their time and effort in preparing for these recordings.  We are proud to see recorders across the state from Omaha to Mitchell:
